In the Midst

Monday, March 29th, 2004

Today I read:

And behold, this people will I establish in this land, unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I made with your father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem. And the powers of heaven shall be in the midst of this people; yea, even I will be in the midst of you. (3 Nephi 20:22, The Book of Mormon)

Did you guess the speaker? Can you imagine what it would be like that day? Can you wait? The one thing that this verse made clear to me — and I thought I already knew it (you know how that is) — was that Jesus Christ is the powers of heaven! I know, it sounds obvious now, but when you read it for the first time and the Holy Ghost says, “Hey, bub, are you paying attention here?” it’s a special moment. I’m glad I could share it with someone.

Hugs

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

A hug is a rather interesting form of communication. It reflects a different attitude towards a person than a kiss. It can’t be compared to a handshake. All these types of contact speak different ideas.

You can say just about anything with a hug. “I love you” is probably the most prolific genre of hug given. Then there’s “I missed you,” “I was so worried,” and a personal favorite of mine, “What up my brotha (sic)!”

You could even feign friendship with a hug to a “long time-no see (but not long enough)” type acquaintance. It’s disgustingly low and highly disgusting, but nevertheless can be done.

Depending on how you look at them, hugs can be the only way to express true feelings, or the only way to avoid expressing true feelings. A hug is a rather interesting form of communication.

So which meant hug, the “x” or the “o”?

I Said, “Free”

Everyone in the Central Texas area should come see Texas Revue. This awesome variety/talent show is beyond awesome. Beyond, I tell you.

Student organizations from all over the UT campus auditioned acts for the show. Word is, out of the 64 acts that auditioned, only 14 made it into the show. We’re talking cream of the crop here: no disappointments at this shindig.

Acts are diverse; from singing to dancing to skits, Texas Revue has it all. There will be something for you to enjoy.

And in case I forgot to mention, it’s free!

I Know Better

Friday, March 26th, 2004

I’m up late again. Or shall I say early? I got to talking to a friend about some Java programming for a class, and he gave me some ideas about how to get the program done. So I up and coded for another hour or two.

Then another friend came online and I’ve been chatting away ever since. That’s my weakness: friends. Contact. Communication. I’ll stay up all night if I have someone to talk to. That’s what I did the night before my birthday last week.

I may be more tired than sled dogs the next morning, but I don’t ever regret it. Time spent with friends is never wasted.

Time spent programming, however, might be. Wasted, that is.
