Labarum for the Latter Day

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

My friend ChloĆ« is a radio star! She hosts — well, she cohosts — a show called Labarum for the Latter Day. It’s about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (those Mormons). She and her lovely cohost talk about beliefs, and play music by Mormon bands. It’s cool, and you should listen!

Just go to the KVRX website and click “listen” in the left column. Wednesday nights at 7:30. Do it!

Labarum: Episode 1

The show kicked off. Anna and Colleen read through the Articles of Faith … backwards. It was a crazy countdown of basic beliefs.

Will You Direct Our Choir?

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

I like to sing. I have many friends that also like to sing.

I am a student at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Institute of Religion in Austin. I have many friends that are also students here.

When you put these two together, you get something called the Institute choir. We’ve got everything we need.

Except for a director.

If you want to direct our choir every Tuesday night from 6:00 to 7:30, let me know. I’ll love you forever.

Climb Ev’ry Mountain

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Last Friday night I went to a birthday party for my friend Rebecca. It was a Sound of Music sing-along. Just as the Reverend Mother was about to bust out with “climb ev’ry mountain,” someone made the comment that she is really wise, like Yoda.

So I start singing “climb ev’ry mountain” in my best Yoda voice. That was funny.

This evening I found myself in conversation with the same Rebecca. We both discovered that the other was an avid viewer of the television show Square One. I was laughing my head off as she would describe an episode to me, and I would know exactly what she was talking about.

Then I found out she has Bloomsbury copies of all the Harry Potter books. That just seals the deal. One day I’m going to own the Harry Potter book set, and I’m going to own the ones that were published in England.

I feel so much cooler about my nerdiness now.

[Edit: Posted exactly at midnight. How cool is that?]

Why I Rarely Got Sick as a Child

The nose is the only organ of the body that for the most part does not have a self-cleaning mechanism. The purpose of the mucous is believed to be (among other things) the entrapment of bacteria and other undesirables that would otherwise have entered the body.

By picking, we provide the nasal passages with a method of cleaning to provide new mucous and by — ugh — eating we introduce the bacteria into our systems that were otherwise trapped, thus allowing our immune systems to learn about it and, more importantly, learn to defeat it. [source]
